The rain hit Tauranga hard last weekend, which meant the Bay Sports Centre Cup and Bowl finals had to be postponed until this coming Saturday. Both matches will now be played in Rotorua at the International Stadium, which will be a great venue for this showpiece local football event.
The main game, set for a 2.30pm kick off, sees the Taupo Lakers from Bay 2 take on Bay 1’s Kawerau Sports. It’s an intriguing match-up, with Kawerau on the verge of claiming the Bay 1 title having scored close to a century of goals and Taupo the Bay 2 champs.
Fans can expect an open encounter as the experienced Taupo side look to contain an attacking Kawerau team that contains three players who have scored more than twenty goals apiece this season.
In the early game, Otumoetai’s Bay 2 side play Rotorua United from Bay 1 in the Bowl final at midday. Otumoetai haven’t exactly set Bay 2 alight this season and can be considered underdogs against a Rotorua side that has battled away in their league.
