WaiBOP denied in Wellington

WaiBOP put in another nearly performance on Saturday, doing everything but score against a Grand Final chasing Capital side.

Goalkeeper Georgia Candy, who moved to Capital this year after several seasons with WaiBOP, was the game's standout player. She stood strong for her team, repeatedly denying the visitors to maintain her clean sheet. This included one full stretch second half effort that kept out a superb long-range Michaela Foster drive.

The only goal of the game came with just over a quarter hour remaining. WaiBOP failed to deal with a Capital attack and the ball skidded through to Kaley Ward, Capital's leading scorer, who completed the job from close range. It was an especially cruel goal to conceed as, to that point, the WaiBOP defensive effort had been sound.

In exceedingly challenging conditions - it was VERY windy - there was a lot to like about WaiBOP's performance. But it was ultimately Candy's showing that ensured WaiBOP headed home with nothing.

WaiBOP host the Northern Lights at Cambridge this coming weekend.
