Federation Talent Centre

Federation Talent Centres (FTC’s) are aimed at providing more players with more high quality football training experiences intended to unlock, explore and develop talent. The notion of providing more players with more opportunities is a key philosophy driving this new inclusive approach.

FTC GAME DAY

Below is the draw for the first Federation Talent Centre (FTC) Game Day being held at Cambridge Junior FC, Vogel Street, Cambridge. These Game Days provide the players with realistic game situations to further develop their tactical understanding. It is also a great opportunity for the coaches to monitor and assess the progress players are making in their training environment.

WaiBOP Federation Talent Centre (FTC) & National Age Group Tournament (NAGT) information for 2017

Federation Talent Centre (FTC) Term 1 (February – March)

U13 Boys (players born 2004)

This programme remains the same as 2016 with a slightly shorter 6-week training block and 3 internal Game Days in February – March, and a further 6-8 week programme in term 4. We will have three Training Centres for this age group, Hamilton, Tauranga & Rotorua and trials will be held in early February. Goalkeepers selected into these groups will be provided with a specific goalkeeping development programme. All players involved in the u12 Boys Skill Centre programme in 2016 will be invited to attend the trials for 2017. All new players wishing to trial will need to be nominated by their club, or a WaiBOP Football Development Officer.

U13 & U14 Girls (Players born 2004-03)

In recognition of the growing number of female players it is our intention to select separate u13 Girls & u14 Girls squads in the Waikato & BOP (Tauranga) centres for 2017 and a new combined u13/14 Girls group in Central BOP. However this is dependent on the number and ability of the players involved and these age groups may be combined if necessary. This will offer a 6-week training block with 3 Game Days as outlined below and there will be three Training Centres for each age groups, Hamilton, Tauranga & Rotorua. The trials will be held in early February and this will be the beginning of the identification process for the 2017 WaiBOP u14 Girls National Age Group squad that will attend the National Age Group Tournament (NAGT) in Wellington in December. Goalkeepers selected into these groups will be provided with a specific goalkeeping development programme. All players involved in the FTC or the u12 Girls Skill Centre programme in 2016 that fit into this age group will be re-invited to attend the trials for 2017. All new players wishing to trial will need to be nominated by their club or a WaiBOP Football Development Officer.

1. It is our intention to select separate u13 & u14 Girls squads as above. However, these age groups may be combined if player numbers and ability are not at the required level.

U14, U15 & U16 Boys

There will be no FTC training block in term 1 for the u14, u15 & u16 Boys. In previous years we have found scheduling of training sessions and game days for these age groups difficult as they have often clashed with club pre-season activity including attendance at various pre-season tournaments. We recognize that this is not the case with every player and so have introduced a new training block programme that will hopefully provide for the needs of our talented players that are still seeking on-going development through term 1 (see below). Also, we have scheduled two ‘Identification Days’ in February and March to begin the identification process of potential players for the WaiBOP NAGT squads for the National Age Group Tournament in Wellington in December.

WaiBOP Federation Youth Pre-season Training programme

This is a new programme offering a 6-week training block through term 1. This programme is designed to provide on-going football development for our more talented players that may not already have an option available at this time. This programme could also provide extra training to those players that are already involved in their club pre-season but are seeking further training opportunities. It will be open to all u14 Boys (born 2003) & u15 Boys (born 2002) and u15/16 Girls (born 2002-01) who are currently playing at Federation Youth level (or similar) or  may be looking to play at that level in 2017. A specific goalkeeping development programme will be included in this programme for goalkeepers. Numbers in each group will be limited so we suggest that you register early to secure your place in this programme. The online registration link will be available on our website very soon. Further information about this programme is outlined below:

WaiBOP NAGT Identification Days

Also, to begin the identification process for the u14, u15 & u16 Boys and u16 Girls 2017 WaiBOP National Age Group squads we will be holding two Identification Training Days in February and March as shown below. The u14 Girls age group will not have an Identification Day as they will have a term 1 programme as above. The two sessions will give us an early look at players and will also assist with identifying players into the first NAGT Training Camp to be held during the April School holiday period. All players involved in the FTC during 2016 will be invited to attend the 2017 NAGT Identification Days in February & March. All new players wishing to attend will need to be nominated by their club or a WaiBOP Football Development Officer.

NOTE BELOW: the second Identification Day (below) has been changed from March 5th to March 19th due to a clash of activities.
