Waikato Bay of Plenty Football (WaiBOP) is the trading name of the Number 3 District Federation of NZ Football, one of six district federations affiliated to the national body.

Established in 2000 we lead, inspire and deliver football in Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupo, Thames/Coromandel, Waikato and Western Bay of Plenty, with offices in Hamilton and Tauranga.

Our values of unity, pride, passion and respect assist us in achieving our vision of incredible performances on and off the field.

Our activities are many and varied but our primary priorities are to achieve the following key strategic goals:

  • Align the Game
  • Organise the Game
  • Develop the Game
  • Succeed at the Game
  • Expand the Game

Over the last few years football has become the most popular team sport for children within the age bracket of 5-18 (Sport NZ, 2012). New Zealand Football responded to this growth in developing their award winning Whole of Football Plan which now provides an aligned strategy for the development of football across the country.

The Federation organises and coordinates four key components across the game; including the provision of a competition structure, player, coach and referee development, (including talent) and club/game support. It has a total of 15 full- and part-time staff with several Football Development Officers along with specific Futsal, Women’s and Referee development officers covering the region.

At an international level, New Zealand has three national teams gaining worldwide recognition for their achievements. The All Whites, the Football Ferns and the Futsal Whites are all experiencing international acknowledgement.  The Whole of Football Plan further aligns the talent pathway to ensure improved international success in the coming years.

Waikato Bay of Plenty Football is one of six Football Federations across New Zealand who are tasked to deliver and manage The Whole of Football Plan. For the players, this includes four key pillars of community recreation, community participation, talented perform and talented excel. This is in conjunction with the development and support of football administrators, referees and coaches.
