The final series of the 2018 Futsal National League was played in Wellington over the weekend and it was a similar story for both our region's teams.
Waikato dropped vital points on Friday, with draws against two sides below them on the table, before defeating two of the top four on Saturday to sit on the cusp of the play-offs. That left Waikato level on points with Southern United as the South Islanders headed into their final match against top of the table, Northern Comets. Unfortunately, Southern found another gear, routing Northern to claim a play-off spot and leave the Waikato squad, that ended as the league's top scorers, lamenting their inconsistency over the course of the season.
Bay of Plenty suffered another four defeats to end the Futsal National League season in bottom spot, with one win from their fourteen matches. It was a tough old summer for the Bay as the WaiBOP region's futsal talent was stretched across two squads.
