WaiBOP v Auckland
Sunday September 15, 2019 - 2pm
John Kerkhof Park, Cambridge
WaiBOP begins our 2019 National Women's League (NWL) campaign on Sunday as, after some time away, we settle back in to our home at Cambridge's John Kerkhof Park.
We have a huge test first up as new head coach, Nico Girard, his staff and players take on Auckland, a perennial powerhouse in the New Zealand women's game.
Girard has a young, fresh-faced squad to choose from in 2019, with many players making the step up to NWL level for the first time. While that means experience will be at a premium, we expect it will be more than made up for by a level of enthusiasm brought from players looking to make their mark in the top flight.
The short gap between the end of the club football season and the start of the NWL means preparation time has been limited, but we're not unique in feeling the frustrations of that. The first game will be a challenge, but fans can expect sustained performances and consistency as the team gets more games under its belt.
