Tauranga City & Boys' College sign MOU

Waikato Bay of Plenty Football with the support of it’s Board are pleased to support the MOU between Tauranga City AFC and Tauranga Boys’ college.

The agreement between Tauranga City AFC and Tauranga Boys’ College is an exciting opportunity that will ultimately benefit the game in the region. The main driving purpose of the MOU is to ensure the more talented youth players at Tauranga Boys’ College continue to be provided with ongoing individual development that meets their needs, and that their respective workloads are better managed. This new concept will allow the club and the school to work closer together to benefit these players.

Tauranga City AFC has an extensive group of experienced and highly qualified coaches who will work in a closer capacity with the college to help optimise player condition and performance. To support this approach and philosophy, Tauranga City AFC will take the place of Tauranga Boys’ College in the WaiBOP Premiership.

This new agreement will allow the club to better manage the transition of youth players involved in the Premiership through to the NRFL environment.

This relatively new concept, where a club and school agree to work to together to benefit the footballing community, is a positive and exciting model that will hopefully lead others to consider how it may work within their regions.

Players attending Tauranga Boys’ College who are not part of the WaiBOP Premiership team will continue to be able to play their Club Football for the club of their choice and Tauranga Boys’ College will continue to enter school teams in the Baywide Youth competition.
