Congratulations and good luck to all WaiBOP football players representing their schools at Tournament Week, starting Monday, 2nd September.
Final preparations are underway as many secondary school teams from our region gear up for “Tourney week”. From 2nd September, eight boys' tournaments and six girls' tournaments will take place across the country, organised by NZ Secondary Schools Football (NZSS Football).
In Auckland, the Premier Boys' tournament will be hosted across multiple venues, with five schools from our region competing: St Peter's School (Cambridge), St Paul's Collegiate (Hamilton), Hamilton Boys' High School, Rotorua Boys High School and Tauranga Boys' College 1st XI.
The Premier Girls' tournament will be held in Nelson, featuring five schools from our area: Hillcrest High School (Hamilton), Waikato Diocesan School for Girls (Hamilton), Otumoetai College (Tauranga), Rototuna High School (Hamilton), and St Peter's School (Cambridge).
Two satellite tournaments are happening in our region. The Maurice Hulme Tournament takes place at Crown Park in Taupo (Girls), and the Hillsdene JUNIOR Tournament (Boys) at Fergusson Park and Waipuna Park, Tauranga.
Tournament week involves hundreds of hours of fundraising and preparation from the teams and their families, as well as organisers and volunteers in host locations across the country.
WaiBOP Football’s Football Development Officer Akshaay Anath is heading to Auckland as assistant coach & goalkeeper coach of the St Peter's school boys team. He says the team are looking forward to playing some great football against the top teams in New Zealand.
Best of luck to all participants!
