Barrie Hawkes of Plains Rangers AFC was one of ten people honoured with a Service to Sport award at the annual BOP Sports Awards, held last Friday.

Barrie is a well known yet unsung footballing hero in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. His Service to Sport award is fantastic recognition of his contribution to football, over many, many years, in that part of the WaiBOP region.

Barrie is a teacher at Awakeri Primary School, runs the Awakeri junior football club and is an integral part of the senior club Plains Rangers club.
