Craig Clark - nominated by Cambridge FC.
Craig Clark has been a member of Cambridge Football Club since moving to our town, with his extended family, in the noughties, having grown up in the Hutt Valley.
Since then, he’s done just about every volunteer role you could take on at a football club...
He’s been our facilities manager, responsible for our buildings and 20+ pitches.
He’s been our treasurer.
He’s run our licensed bar.
He’s been our cleaner, repairman and makes sure the rubbish goes out every week.
Not surprisingly, we’ve been appreciating Craig heaps – he was our Club Person of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
Last year, Craig decided he needed a break so he stepped down from our committee.
But the COVID-19 pandemic got in the way of his ‘time out’ and he’s been as busy as ever as our club copes with this disrupted season.
Despite a job that keeps him on the road most of his working week, he’s still found time to repair fences, repaint our changing rooms and look after our grounds while we couldn’t get them mowed.
Between all the work, he also turns out for a team noted for its contingent of players over 45 (our D1 team, playing in Waikato Division 5).
He's part of a Clark family who have collectively given generously of their time to grow our club.
He’s one of three brothers to play, coach and manage teams (senior and junior); his son, niece and nephews all play football.
His father Graham (in his 70s), is our linemarker, carefully painting the white lines on our 20+ pitches every week.
Most of all, we know Craig’s efforts wouldn’t be possible without the support of his wife, Dawn – the only Clark who doesn’t play football.
We would love you to recognise Craig for all he does; he's the classic hero of all community sports clubs!
Craig receives a $75 meal voucher from The Keg Room.
Does your club have an Unsung Hero you think should be given recognition? Contact dwayne.b@waibop.co.nz with a summary of why (and a photo) and we'll feature them in his weekly series.
WaiBOP Football is acknowledging the people who make the clubs around our region tick. They may organise the gear, keep your grounds in shape, run the bar, drive the bus, coordinate teamsor, more than likely, do all of those things and more...without ever asking for a word of thanks. Our weekly Unsung Hero winner will receive a meal voucher in recognition of their contribution.
