WaiBOP's two Men's Futsal SuperLeague teams - the Waikato Rapids and Bay of Plenty Surge - begin their 2020 campaigns at The Peak in Hamilton tomorrow.
First up? The WaiBOP derby, kicking off at 11am.
The two teams enter 2020 with vastly different recent records. While the points were shared between the two in 2019's opening game, a 3-3 draw, the Rapids stormed through the remainder of the season, culminating in a 4-3 Grand Final victory over Southern United, while the Surge only picked up a solitary win and finished bottom.
There's nothing like a derby, however, to sharpen the competitive spirit. The shortened season means teams play each other only once this year, so there is little room for error, espcially from those sides hoping to compete for the crown.
Added to this weekend's mix are the visitors - 2019 semi-finalists, the Northern Comets and Auckland City FC, who have inherited Auckland's place in the league. Both have been consistently good performers in this league over the year, so each of the weekend's six games will have more than a little edge.
See you at The Peak (but if you can't make it to The Peak this weekend...you can still watch your favourite futsal teams live on your device. Matches will be streamed on NZF's Futsal Facebook page HERE.)
